Microdermabrasion & Peels

Cosmetic Dermatology

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation procedure which could be described as superficial skin polishing. We have two options for the procedure; the first uses micro-crystals which are sprayed onto the skin accompanied by suction which painlessly vacuums away the crystals along with dead skin. The second is a newer unit which utilizes interchangeable diamond-cut stainless heads in several levels of abrasion to accommodate different skin types. Skin is suctioned up against the head as it is drawn across the face for the removal of dead skin cells.

Microdermabrasion treatments are non-invasive and non-aggressive. Their improvements are progressive and cumulative. The procedure only removes the outermost layers of dead skin cells to reveal the fresher, younger cells beneath. Dry, flaking skin will be removed, fine lines and age spots may be reduced, and acne scars and stretch marks will become less obvious. It’s called a lunchtime procedure because you can go right back to work following treatment. Return visits will intensify the results achieved.

Products for you to purchase from our Professional Product Collection. (We recommend our complimentary product consultation before purchasing.)
Chemical peels derived or synthesized from natural sources, have been used for centuries in their natural form for skin smoothing and rejuvenation. They work on several levels, superficially to dissolve debris in pores (blackheads), and slightly deeper in the epidermis to release layers of dead skin cells.

The chemicals we use are called Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids. AHAs are derived from such products as milk (lactic acid), almonds (mandelic acid), sugar cane (glycolic acid), citrus fruits (citric acid), apples, cherries and various other fruits (malic and tartaric acids), BHA has an aspirin base (salicylic acid). We begin your treatments using very low strengths of these acids, and increase potency as you acclimate to them, testing each before application.

We also offer Jessner peels as a stand-alone treatment as they must remain on the face until they neutralize. The Jessner is a combination of salicylic and lactic acids plus Resorcinol, and is sometimes applied alternately with TCA (trichloroacetic acid) for more intense results.

A combination of microdermabrasion and chemical peel treatments for a non-ablative, moderate skin resurfacing is called a "Superpeel." There is no down time associated with this treatment.

The Superpeel is an inclusive 45 minute procedure which provides an AHA or BHA chemical peel appropriate to your skin type and tolerance level determined by pre-testing, a microdermabrasion treatment with either a crystal or diamond-head system, and standard facial services including extractions and a healing mask.

Our experienced aestheticians, who have been exactingly trained by Dr. Mash. They provide medical-grade, personalized treatments which take into account the specific challenges of your skin, and will recommend a home skin regime for you to follow to maintain our results.

Superpeels exfoliate the top layers of dead skin, remove debris from the pores, and polish the skin, leaving it clean, bright and smooth. They aid in the reduction of fine lines and acne scars, superficial age spots, blackheads and generalized sun damage.

Patients can benefit from a single Superpeel; however, because it is a moderate, non-ablative resurfacing tool, we suggest packages of three or six treatments which enable our medical aestheticians to work on specific issues, such as the fine lines and age spots mentioned above.

Aside from some temporary flushing which resolves in a matter of minutes, and some exfoliation in three to five days which can normally be controlled by moisturizing, there is no down time connected with the moderate skin resurfacing achieved by Superpeels or Jessner Peels.
During the summer months we modify our Superpeel for outdoor enthusiasts due to the potential damage to treated skin from the harsh summer sun. Sunscreen is recommended at all times, applied frequently.

Dr. Mash and her staff frequently recommend that patients receive a chemical peel or a complete Superpeel prior to laser skin rejuvenation procedure to improve the effect of the intense pulse light treatment.
